My Skincare Struggles
As a middle-class Indian girl with a passion for skincare, I once found myself lost in skincare world. I’d watch others with envy as they effortlessly glowed, and I’d be glued to skincare ads on TV, wondering how to achieve that same radiance. In this blog post, I’ll share my personal skincare journey – from struggling to find the right skincare practices and techniques to overcoming those challenges and discovering what works best for my skin.
Lost in Skincare World
Even after eight years of doing skincare and running a skincare website, I still find myself overwhelmed by the sheer number of brands, products, and promotions out there. As a beginner, it was especially challenging to navigate this crowded space and choose the best products for my skin. This was one of the first major hurdles I faced when I started my skincare journey.
How i overcame the struggles?
- I identify my skin concerns and research the right ingredients for my needs. For example, when dealing with acne, I’ve learned that salicylic acid is often effective.
- I prefer to personally use a product before endorsing it. By experiencing its benefits firsthand, I can confidently vouch for its effectiveness.
- Rather than recommending specific brands, I suggest people test a reputable, basic product on their skin for six weeks to see how it works for them. This helps build trust in the product.
The high Consistency of Products affected my face
I started using a vitamin C serum from a particular brand. Initially, after six weeks, my skin looked healthy, bright, and hydrated – I was hooked! But, without questioning it further, I continued using it, and that’s when the problems began. After another six weeks, the vitamin C serum started causing breakouts, acne scars, and my skin’s condition worsened.
How i overcame the struggles?
- Once I noticed the negative effects, I immediately stopped using the vitamin C serum on my skin.
- I avoided vitamin C products for a few months and switched to low-consistency products to give my skin a break.
- During this time, I used soothing ingredients like aloe vera gel and rose water to calm my skin and reduce sensitivity caused by the vitamin C serum.
Hot water Baths resulted in Acne for me
How i overcame the struggles?
- I stopped using hot water on my face and switched to cold water for cleansing
- I completely avoided taking geyser baths and made sure geyser hot water didn’t touch my face
- Within a few days, I noticed that my acne and sensitivity had subsided, and my skin was back to normal
Overusing Natural Ingredients disrupted my skin
Like many, I was a fan of using DIY face packs and natural ingredients daily, alongside regular skincare products. But instead of balancing my skin, this mix of natural and chemical-based products created chaos – severe acne, sensitivity, and dryness. It wasn’t until later that I understood the reason behind this imbalance.
How i overcame the struggles?
- I reduced my use of DIY face packs to just once or twice a week, giving my skin a break from daily natural ingredient applications
- I learned that not all natural ingredients suit every skin type, so I started doing patch tests before applying new ingredients to my face
- By finding a balance between natural ingredients and chemical products, I achieved amazing results for my skin
Frequent Changing of products
How i overcame the struggles?
- I stuck with the products that gave me good results, continuing to use them consistently
- Before switching to a new product, I gave the old one at least three months to work its magic. If I didn’t see any results, then I’d consider making a change
Conclusion
That’s my skincare journey – the struggles, the challenges, and the triumphs. As a girl who dove headfirst into skincare, I faced many obstacles, but once I understood what my skin needed, everything fell into place. With patience and persistence, my skin began to glow, and I’m thrilled to share my story with you.
